Tilesets RPG Maker XP Converted to MV (Early Access)

Tilesets RPG Maker XP Converted to MV (Early Access)

🌟 Project Overview

Hello, Makers! This is a pack of RPG Maker XP (RTP) tilesets that have been converted and resized to the standard RPG Maker MV format .

This pack is in Early Access , which means more tilesets will be added in future updates. My goal is to bring the nostalgia and visual variety of XP graphics to your MV projects!

⚙️ Understanding the Structure (MV Format)

For maximum flexibility in mapping, the files were organized in two ways:

Pack (384x384): A piece of the tileset, used to compose the larger files. You can use these packs to create your own variations of Tilesets B, C, D, and E.

Instructions: Simply use an image editor and assemble the 768x768 file following the MV template, using the 4 image packs.

Tileset (768x768): The complete image (with 4 packs inside), ready to be imported directly for use in the RPG Maker MV database (used for tabs B, C, D, and E).

What it is: Conversion of tilesets from RM XP to RM MV format.

Contents: 59 packs (384x384) and 10 ready-made tile sets (768x768).

Compatibility: Confirm that it is for RPG Maker MV (and MV-compatible).

🛠️ Quick Installation Guide (For Beginners)

📥 Quick Installation Guide (3 Simple Steps)

If you're new to importing resources, follow this checklist to use tilesets immediately in your MV project:

  1. Copy the Files:
    • Locate the folder containing your RPG Maker MV project (e.g., MyRPGGame/).
    • Unzip the package and copy all the .png files to the subfolder: img/tilesets.
  2. Open the Database:
    • In RPG Maker MV, click on the Database icon (the gear).
    • Go to the Tilesets tab .
  3. Create/Edit a Tileset:
    • Choose an empty slot or edit an existing one.
    • Click the checkboxes under tabs A1, A2, A5, B, C, D, E and select the files you just copied (e.g., XP_Beach_A2, XP_Desert_B_768, etc.).
    • Click OK and start mapping!

License to Use:

Free for personal and commercial projects (with or without credit).

  • Personal and Commercial Use: Allowed in personal and commercial projects created in any game development software (Engines, RPG Maker, etc.).
  • Credits: Giving credit is not mandatory, but it is greatly appreciated! Suggestion: Eternity 1 for conversion to MV.
  • ⚠️ Legal Requirement (RTP Rule): Because they are based on the RPG Maker XP RTP, the end user must possess a legal and valid RPG Maker XP license to legally use these graphics in their projects, whether in MV or any other engine.
  • Forbidden: The resale or redistribution of this tileset pack individually in other stores or platforms is strictly prohibited.
  • The fee charged for this feature relates exclusively to the work of converting and organizing the XP graphics into the MV format. The license to use the underlying graphics (XP RTP) remains contingent upon the user possessing a legal copy of RPG Maker XP.

🙏 Support the Project!

This conversion work requires time and dedication. If you found this resource useful for your project and wish to support the completion of the remaining packages, please consider making a donation.

Advanced Tutorial

Method for creating the images:

Open the tileset you want to edit in GIMP.

Display the grid, then configure the grid and set it to 32x32.

Select 8 rows from the tileset (8 XP tiles) or one row with a size of 256x256.

Now, in another tab, create a 576x576 image with a 72x72 grid.

Copy the 256x256 image and resize it to 576x576 without interpolation.

In the other tab, create a 384x384 image with a 48x48 grid, then copy the 576x576 image and resize it to 384x384.

Every time you copy an image and paste it into another, create a new layer, and all resizing should be done layer by layer.

An Xp panorama for the tileset will cover an area of 768x384. The panorama must be resized to 768x768 and then to 768x384.

Most importantly, this 150% resizing must be done without interpolation (Nearest Neighbor). This ensures that when enlarging the image, the software only duplicates or triples existing pixels (maintaining the pixel art look) instead of creating new "blended" pixels (which would cause blurring).

XP Panoramas for MV (170%)

Panorama XP 480x480

The ideal transition size to maintain the style is therefore 1080x1080 . Thus, the final resizing will be 816x816.

Conclusion of the Simplified Workflow

Resize (170% and No Interpolation):

Take the 1080x1080 image and resize it to the final size: 816x816.

Adjust the Content: Edit the 1080x1080 content within the 816x816 screen to ensure it repeats cohesively (like a wallpaper) if you plan to use MV's "Vertical Loop" or "Horizontal Loop" options.

Battlebacks XP for MV

Battlebacks XP 640x320 Battlebacks MV 1000x740

The ideal size for the transition image is 1600x800.

This process results in a total stretching of 156.25% in width and 231.25% in height to fit the MV aspect ratio. The result generates a visual distortion.

Fogs XP for MV

Original XP 640x480

Transition Image: 1440x1080

Final image: 816x624, which is the standard size for title screens in MV.

(Transitions and Screens)

To successfully convert your XP Transitions, Titles, and Game Over images from 640x480 to the standard MV 816x624 screen size, you must apply the same oversizing flow that we already calculated.

Transition Image: 1440x1080

Instruction: This flow results in a uniform scale of 127.5% x 130%, with minimal visual distortion .
